Our Philosophy
Our Majlis is an assembly dedicated to proliferating wisdom. Our notion of being an assembly is twofold. We, the individuals assembling upon principles of wisdom, are the Majlis. The centre of wisdom that emerges, where knowledge nourishes and is nurtured, is itself the Majlis. The Majlis is its attendees in that our presence, ideas, and discourse serve as means to wisdom. Similarly, the Majlis is the space in which its attendees congregate, for such upholds our pursuit of wisdom, enabling the exchange that imbues and is imbued by its attendees. Our first act of gathering follows this definition of wisdom: A temporal act for the sake of truth.
We operate on the principle that humans have a duty to act for the benefit of their communities. What defined the greatest and most virtuous people in the Majlis’s history was their commitment to seeking knowledge, solving injustice and acting to achieve progress in their societies. This is a tradition we seek to uphold through The Majlis Foundation.
By uniting intellectual and social energy, the foundation drives transformative global projects that reflect the spirit of the giants on whose shoulders we stand. The essence of the Majlis lies in building a sense of community and mission, of beauty and courage, empowering individuals to pursue higher intellectual and social purposes. Moreover, our essence lies in the responsibility to create positive societal change in line with the example set by Majlis founders and alumni before us. Through the Majlis Foundation, we reaffirm our commitment to carrying forward this prestigious heritage, while adapting to the evolving needs of our times, maintaining the Majlis as a beacon of intellectual, spiritual, artistic and social leadership.
