Our History
The Majlis was founded as a society in Cambridge in 1894, then 1896 in Oxford, as debating clubs for Hindustani (modern-day Pakistan, India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka) students to interrogate the principles of imperialism.
Our Philosophy
Through dialectics, debates, public addresses, and the exchange of networks and ideas, The Majlis goes beyond theory in these arenas and formulates thought through our rich intellectual tradition that discovers wisdom independently of all existing paradigms.

By resisting an uncritical acceptance of dominant narratives and philosophies, we offer the world a new lens through which to understand the problems of our time.
